Second Month, 2008
Based on the commandment “Thou shalt not kill,” Annapolis Friends Meeting fundamentally opposes the death penalty. We believe no human being has the right to take the life of another.
Fundamental Quaker Testimonies recognize the divine creation and essential equality of all people. We also believe that the death penalty is contrary to our witness for peace and to our seeking to build community.
Annapolis Friends Meeting, of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers), calls on the Governor and our representatives to the Maryland Senate and House of Delegates to enact legislation to repeal Maryland's death penalty statutes and, further, to enact an immediate moratorium on executions in Maryland until such legislation is ratified into law.
